Decluttering & Organising in Chislehurst
No judgement. Sustainable systems. Calm support.
Elegant houses. Rooms that stopped working years ago.
Chislehurst is one of South East London's most affluent, village-feel suburbs, and its identity is built almost entirely around the commons: 180 acres of protected heathland at Chislehurst and St Paul's Cray Commons that were saved from development by local campaigns back in 1888 and have shaped the town ever since.
The housing follows the money and the history: elegant Georgian and Victorian homes clustered around the commons, some of the finest Arts and Crafts houses in South East London, and large detached family properties that have rarely changed hands.
Fast trains to London Bridge and Charing Cross, well-regarded schools, and Bromley's relatively low council tax all add to the draw for families who want to stay for decades rather than years.
The trade-off for all that period charm is storage that hasn't kept pace. Large Georgian and Victorian houses were built with grand reception rooms, not utility rooms or walk-in wardrobes, so it's common to find a beautiful Chislehurst home where several rooms have become overflow storage.
What Happens During A Session?
When we chat during our free discovery call, we talk through the area or areas that need my help and discuss how many sessions and the duration of sessions that would work for you. Sessions are a minimum of four (4) hours and up to seven (7) hours.
On the day, we have a chat about what area you want to start decluttering and make a plan for the session. Chislehurst's large Georgian, Victorian and Arts and Crafts houses tend to have generous rooms but not the built-in storage a modern home would have, so the organising side of the work usually needs more attention here.
We go at a pace that doesn't tip you into decision fatigue, and the storage gets defined by how you actually live and in the way that will most help you to stay organised.

Decluttering or Organising? Which Do I Need?
Decluttering is a systematic approach to reducing the amount of belongings in your home- the ones that have been cluttering your surfaces and leading to mental clutter.
When the decisions have been made, and your belongings have been reduced to a more manageable size, we start to think about how they could be organised, so that both you and your family are able to maintain an organised space.
No two homes, two people, or two families are identical, so the solutions we implement will be tailored, not a one-size fits all approach.

A Little Bit About Me
I spent over twenty years leading humanitarian operations in crisis settings and was awarded an OBE and an Honorary Doctorate for that work. At the age of 51, I was diagnosed with ASD, and at 53, I was diagnosed with ADHD.
I use both my experience and my lived experience of neurodivergence to create order from chaos, staying calm when the situation feels out of control. To offset decision fatigue, I break things down into manageable chunks, so that they stop feeling impossible. As I have had my own challenges with executive function, I will not judge you for disorganisation.

What clients say
"Jo is brilliant at bringing some clarity and order to my home at a pace suitable for me. She is helping me: declutter, assign designated storage spaces, minimise and organise paperwork and establish simpler processes to keep on top of tasks. She comes with a wealth of knowledge and ideas to make managing life admin easier. Her enthusiasm and drive is the boost I need to tackle projects that I have been avoiding. It makes a huge difference to have her support."

FAQs
Where do donated items go? I'll take up to five standard-sized rubbish bags away with me on the day, and if there is time on the day, I will donate to 2gether on the High Street, or take them to any one of the charity shops near me. I can also arrange for donations to be taken away at no extra charge.
Will you force me to get rid of anything? No. Some people let go of a lot, some let go of very little, and both are fine. The goal is a space that works for you, not one that looks like it belongs to someone else.
What about cleaning? I don't offer a cleaning service as such, but I'll do light cleaning as we go where it's needed. The less clean a space is to start with, the longer the session tends to take.
