Swedish Death Cleaning.

Swedish Death Cleaning, döststädning in Swedish, is the practice of gradually and mindfully clearing your home of possessions so that your loved ones won’t have to do it for you. It’s not morbid. It’s one of the most loving and practical things a person can do.
It’s also, for many people, the hardest. A lifetime’s belongings carry a lifetime’s memories, meanings, and emotional weight. Deciding what to keep, what to pass on, and what to let go, especially when the stakes feel high, is exactly the kind of task that needs patient, experienced support. That's where I step in.

How We Work
There is no rush, no pressure, and no judgement. We work at whatever pace feels right, focusing on one area at a time. I will never tell you what to keep or let go, that is always your decision. My role is to create the space and structure that makes those decisions feel manageable, not overwhelming.
Where appropriate, I can help you identify items to pass on to family members, items suitable for donation or sale, and items ready to be let go. I can coordinate donation collections and connect you with relevant services.

A Note on Sensitivity
This work requires a particular kind of care. I bring to it the same compassion I developed over 25 years of working with people in the most difficult circumstances imaginable. You will not be rushed, judged, or made to feel that any of your feelings about your belongings are unreasonable.
Everything discussed remains completely confidential.

Testimonial
Jo is honestly one of the most trustworthy and reliable people you could ever invite into your home. She has such a calm way about her that just puts you at ease straight away. There’s no judgement, no pressure… you just feel comfortable. What I really love is that she cares about doing things in a way that actually works for real life, not just something that looks good for a moment. She’s amazing at what she does but more than that, she’s just a genuinely lovely person. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to anyone.
