Kitchen Organisation

A kitchen that looks tidy on the surface can still be exhausting to use if the storage doesn't make sense. Kitchen organising isn't about buying matching containers, although you can do that if you want; it's about building a system so that everything has an obvious, logical place, and staying organised doesn't depend on memory.

Signs A Kitchen Needs Attention

  1. You own three sets of lids and can never find the one that matches the pan you're holding.

  2. Spices get bought twice because the first jar was hidden behind something taller.

  3. Worktop space disappears under items that technically live in a cupboard, if only there were room.

  4. There's a drawer, or several, that everyone in the house avoids opening because it's genuinely unclear what's in there anymore.

Why Kitchens Are Rarely Simple

Most kitchen storage was designed by someone who never lived in the house, so it rarely matches how the current household actually cooks. Gadgets bought for one recipe, once, sit taking up prime cupboard space next to things used daily. Crockery inherited from family carries weight beyond its usefulness. Small kitchens are asked to do the work of larger ones, and shared households often have several different systems layered on top of each other rather than one that works for everyone.

What Happens in a Kitchen Organisation Session

Rather than sorting by cupboard, we group similar items together and by how things are actually used, such as everyday cooking, baking, and entertaining, so the most-used items end up at eye level and arm's reach, and the rest move further back. Any foodstuff past its prime gets dealt with rather than pushed to the back, and where memory alone won't keep a system going, we label. The goal is a kitchen where putting things away is as easy as taking them out.

The Takeaway

At the end of each session, I take up to five standard-sized rubbish bags with me and/or arrange for them to be collected from your doorstep.

It makes life easier.

Real Client Story

Laura wanted her kitchen to feel as good to use as it looked. We worked through the cupboards, put proper storage solutions in place, and labelled where it made a real difference, moving at a good pace so the whole project came together in one focused session.

"Thank you so much Jo for organising my kitchen — it is now beautifully organised and a total joy when I open up my cupboards! Jo turned up with storage solutions, a label maker and whizzed through the project with focus and enthusiasm. I highly recommend!!!"
