Wardrobe Organisation

A wardrobe that's stopped working makes every morning harder. Clothes that don't fit, doubles you forgot you owned, and a system that relies on memory rather than logic all add friction to a two-minute decision. Wardrobe organisation sorts what you actually wear from what you're keeping out of habit or sentiment, and builds a system that holds.

Signs Your Wardrobe Has Stopped Working

  1. You reach for the same five or six things and step over everything else to get to them.

  2. Ironing feels wasted because whatever you iron comes out creased from being wedged in next to three other pieces of clothing.

  3. You've bought something you already own, because finding the original felt like more trouble than the shop trip.

  4. The rail groans under the weight and the hanger hooks criss cross the bar.

  5. Drawers won't shut fully, and you're forever stuffing bits in to get them shut properly.

  6. Getting dressed in the morning takes longer than it should for a decision that used to be automatic.

What Makes Wardrobes Difficult to Sort Alone

Clothes carry more attached history than most other possessions: a dress from a wedding, a jumper from someone who's no longer around, or an old work uniform from a job that mattered. Clothes remind you of who you once were, or who you might like to be again, or they hold promises of a new you. Sizes change and get kept anyway, for a future that may or may not arrive. Seasonal pieces pile on top of each other rather than swapping over cleanly.

What a Wardrobe Session Actually Involves

We go category by category. That means we see how many jumpers/shirts/trousers, etc. you actually own first, so that we can get a feel for how many you may need to let go. This also means that we can see similar items very quickly within each category, such as six cream jumpers, five blue button-up shirts or ten pairs of identical trousers.

Where it helps, we try things on, since a piece of clothing can look completely different once it's actually worn again versus remembered. Once we have decided what is staying, we work out whether it should be hung, rolled or folded based on the space you have in the furniture you own. If we have space to do the seasonal rotation, we do that. If not, we work out how to keep this season's attire at the front, and next season's behind.

The Takeaway

At the end of the session, I will take up to five standard-sized rubbish bags with me and/or arrange for them to be collected from your door.

So, that's one less thing to worry about.

Real Client Story

Niccy had decluttered before, but the wardrobe had crept back: clothes from three previous sizes she'd kept just in case, and new pieces bought impulsively that never made it out of the bag. Her wardrobe was bursting out all over, and there was a small mountain of shoes at the bottom to climb over.

We went through everything together, piece by piece, working out what actually fitted her life now rather than a previous one. What was kept got an obvious place. What wasn't went to donation to the Hospice in the Weald. The session took four hours.

Niccy said: - "Jo was FANTASTIC! She is completely non judgemental, friendly and super efficient. I had far too many clothes, including things that were three sizes too big. We put them all into piles by category, then went through each pile, then decided where to store them. I now have an organised wardrobe with clothes I actually wear. Thank you."
